Triple W Japan Inc.
Initial Report
Triple W Japan Inc. plans to start field trials at the Tokyo
Metropolitan Hiroo Hospital on Monday, November 16, and at the Tokyo
Metropolitan Bokutoh Hospital on Tuesday, November 17.
Patients hospitalized
at the Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery will wear ""DFree,” and
by using ""DFree,"" which induces independent urination, verification of
the effects will be conducted to see recovery of patients and the workload
reduction effect on caregivers.
The verification method will be done
through questionnaires and surveys regarding the degree of early recovery
of inpatients, changes in the degree of independent urination, changes
in the number of instances of incontinence, and the burden on nurses regarding
excretion care.
This field trial will be carried out until the end
of February 2021.
Final Report
The field trial conducted by Triple W Japan Inc. at Tokyo Metropolitan Hiroo Hospital and Tokyo Metropolitan Bokutoh Hospital has been completed on January 31, 2021 and February 19, 2021 respectively.
In the field trial, patients wore a urination prediction device "DFree", and the effectiveness was verified by measuring the degree of self-reliance* 1 in urination with the data recorded in the "DFree" app, as well as by measuring changes in the sense of burden and thoughts on excretion care through questionnaires given to nurses. *1: Calculated as the independent urination rate (Number of successful urination/number of urination)
First, regarding the degree of self-reliance in terms of urination, wearing "DFree" improved the self-reliance in urination for the majority of hospitalized patients, and the self-reliance in urination was maintained for the remaining patients without worsening. As a result, an improvement of an average 20.1% self-reliance rate was observed, which confirms the usefulness of "DFree" in improving self-reliance for hospital patients.
Improvement in self-reliance
Degree of Improvement in self-reliance
As for the improvement effect on the excretion state, we verified the average number of times per day for "frequency of independent urination", "frequency of incontinent urination", "number of idle swings", and "Number of diaper changes", and we confirmed an improvement effect of 30% or more in all items.
Frequency of independent urination
Frequency of incontinent urination
Times missed
Number of diaper changed
*1: Total number of times led to use the bathroom but did not need to
use it and the number of diapers changed when unneccesary
*2:
Total number of diapers and pads changed in a day
In a questionnaire survey of nurses who support the patietnts, more than 70% of nurses answered that using "DFree" to understand urination patterns and provide urination care would reduce the burden of nursing duties, and more than 50% of nurses answered that using "DFree" improved their awareness of excretion care.
Reduce the burden of nursing duties
improved their awareness of excretion care
Based on the results of the above verification, we believe that the urination prediction device "DFree" provided by Triple W Japan Co., Inc. is highly useful for improving the self-reliance of urination of hospitalized patients and reducing the workload of nurses. On the other hand, operational issues such as the unstable network and differences in maturity level of using "DFree" were also identified.
In the future, we will use the results of the verification test to promote the introduction of public procurement.
